Abstract
Open AccessDiabetic nephropathy (DN) is a major complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and genetic variants like RAGE -374T/A may influence disease susceptibility. Therefore, it is of interest to analyze the association between RAGE -374T/A polymorphism and DN in T2DM patients from Kolar, Karnataka. Genotyping was done by PCR-RFLP and clinical parameters were compared. No significant association was found between the polymorphism and DN (p > 0.05), though DN patients showed elevated HbA1c, microalbuminuria and dyslipidemia. These findings suggest metabolic factors, rather than this specific RAGE variant, are more strongly linked to DN risk in this population.
