Abstract
Open AccessA 90-year-old man underwent SPECT with 99m Tc-ethyl cysteinate dimer (ECD) SPECT due to a 2-week history of aphasia and fever. 99m Tc ECD is a radiopharmaceutical that reflects cerebral blood flow. We present a case of parotid gland oncocytoma exhibiting marked ECD uptake in a brain SPECT scan. This finding suggests the certain extracerebral tumors may retain ECD due to intracellular mechanisms, potentially related to mitochondrial activity.
