Abstract
Open AccessGossypiboma, the retained surgical sponge or gauze, is a rare but serious iatrogenic complication often underreported due to medico-legal concerns. Involvement of the urinary bladder is exceedingly rare, with few cases described. Presentations vary from asymptomatic findings to mimicking bladder stones or tumors, complicating diagnosis. Imaging aids detection, while cystoscopy confirms diagnosis. Management requires endoscopic or surgical retrieval, and prevention depends on strict adherence to surgical counts and safety protocols. We report a rare case of a large stone-encrusted intravesical gossypiboma presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms after hysterectomy, successfully managed by open removal.
