Abstract
Open AccessIn this article, we detail a database on the living conditions of women in the ethnically diverse municipality of San Andrés de Tumaco (Tumaco), Colombia. The database was designed and collected by the Observatory for Women's Equity (OEM) - the result of an alliance between Icesi University and WWB Foundation, Colombia - and as part of the Life, Gender, and Work project funded by the universities of Kent, Warwick and Essex (United Kingdom), and Icesi University (Colombia). The collection of data used a feminist economics and an intersectional approach, and adopted an ethnic-territorial focus. The data collected highlights household composition and care work, global/local care chains, subjective well-being, employability, sexual and reproductive rights, perceptions of domestic and care work, and community participation, all vital information for the establishment and functioning of a national system of care in Colombia and pluri-ethnic countries. The information collected on global/local care chains is also the first effort in Latin America to measure migration from the perspective of care work. The sample size is 574 women.
